The Instant Meal Rate feature in Dormefy is designed to streamline meal cost management for dorms and messes where people live and eat together, sharing expenses equally. This feature automatically calculates the cost per meal based on the total meal cost divided by the total number of meals consumed. It applies to groups of people living in a non-commercial setup, ensuring transparency and fairness in meal cost-sharing.
The dynamic nature of the Instant Meal Rate means that it continuously updates depending on the total meal cost and the number of meal count. As meal costs or the number of meals consumed change, the per-meal rate adjusts accordingly, allowing members and managers to see the real-time rate directly on their Dormefy dashboard.
How to Access the Instant Meal Rate: #
- Login to Dormefy:
Log in using the Dormefy web or Android app. - Check the Dashboard:
Navigate to your Dashboard, where the current Instant Meal Rate is displayed in the Finance row. The meal rate is updated automatically and reflects the most accurate cost per meal until the quarter is closed. The “quarter” duration is defined by each dorm’s specific rules and regulations, which can range from daily, weekly, bi-monthly, or monthly. - Real-Time Updates: The meal rate automatically updates as the total meal cost and meal count change, ensuring you don’t need to manually contact anyone for updates.
Example Scenario #
Let’s take a dormitory as an example. After a quarter is closed, if the total meal cost for that quarter was $850 and the total number of meals consumed was 50, the Instant Meal Rate will be calculated as:
$850 / 50 = $17 per meal.
This calculation is dynamic, meaning it can fluctuate until the quarter closes, giving members real-time updates on their meal costs.

The Instant Meal Rate is visible to all members and managers in the dorm until the quarter duration closes. The duration of the quarter varies based on the dorm’s individual rules, and it can be set to a single day, one week, half a month, or a full month. Once the quarter closes, the final meal rate is locked in.
Can the Instant Meal Rate be changed once the quarter is closed? #
No, once the quarter duration is closed, the Instant Meal Rate is locked and cannot be altered. The dynamic calculation only applies while the quarter is still open.
Who can view the Instant Meal Rate in Dormefy? #
Both members and managers can view the Instant Meal Rate in the Finance row on the Dormefy dashboard. This ensures transparency and equal access to information about meal costs.
